Visual Exploration: The History of Beads

The historical context of beads, their visual component, and examples of their use were studied. From the 17th to the 19th century, the aborigines of tribal Africa traded important resources for a string of beads, believing it to be a valuable material, similar to gemstones. In Europe, the higher aristocracy began to embroider, introducing beaded jewelry into fashion. All this has symbolism for the people who lived at that time and opens up new meanings for contemporaries who are not familiar with this topic.
